After ten years spent in the metallurgical industry, plus a multitude of odd jobs, including one – undoubtedly the most memorable – at an antique dealer, Yves Carrey decided to put his know-how at the service of art. It was a meeting with a couple of painters that triggered everything…

Yves Carrey designs and creates some sculptures, furniture and lighting fixtures, as well as any other object that makes use of iron. He emphasizes the natural colors of the metal. When the material he chooses to assemble is already covered with paint, enamel, or any other corrosion effect, he does not seek to remove it. On the contrary, whether through form or appearance, the condition of the material will be left in its original surface state. He simply carves, polishes, twists or crushes and finallyand finally welds the elements together.

What approach should I take to talk about Yves?

My friendship for him and Véronique, surely. But also my admiration for his "titanic" work of transformation, into strength and beauty, of matter, the forgotten or inert remnants of our old world. To constantly create, recreate comforting metallic ice figures, warmed by a kind of inner laugh.

And should I read there a despair or another, older, initial conviction that man, the human being, is resolutely mistaken in his choices? For Yves outright refuses "something," it seems to me, rebellious, revolted without dogma, he tenderly wrestles with iron and fire, modestly. Wounded by work, he does not submit and places in the public square the joy and freedom of the true creator. "Eleftheria" in Greek, where I am today.

Where to start when talking about Yves?

My friendship for him and Véronique, surely. But also my admiration for his "titanic" work of transformation, turning the forgotten or inert remnants of our old world into strength and beauty. To continuously create and recreate comforting metallic ice figures, warmed by a sort of inner laughter.

And should I read in it a despair or another, older, initial conviction, that man, the human being, is resolutely mistaken in his choices? Because Yves immediately refuses "something," it seems to me, insubordinate, revolted without dogma, he tenderly battles with iron and fire, modestly. Wounded by work, he does not submit and places in the public square the joy and freedom of the true creator. "Eleftheria" in Greek where I am today.
